Department of Sanskrit and Indian Culture

 

With its unique emphasis on classical Sanskrit & contemporary technology, the University houses a Sanskrit Department which offers B.Sc (Sanskrit & Computer Science) and M.A. (Sanskrit) Courses with specialization in Nyaya, Vyakarana and Sahitya in the regular stream. Certificate –level correspondence courses are also offered. More than 25 doctoral degrees have been awarded by the department and a large number of researchers are pursuing their doctoral research programmes through the department.

The department’s areas of research include:

  • digitizing and making the Indian Epics Online through easily accessible websites
  • Collecting, digitizing and interpreting the Manuscripts written in ancient times in several Indian Languages including Tamil, Sanskrit, Hindi, Pali, Grantha etc.
  • Integrating Sanskrit Literature with modern studies, concepts and technology
  • Natural Language Processing based on Sanskrit Language
  • Identifying and extolling scientific and mathematical aspects from the Indian Texts written in Sanskrit
  • Studies on Ayurveda, Jyotisha, Agama
  • Research on Vedas
  • Inter-disciplinary research with Sanskrit as Nodal subject
